general notes

For practical purposes we will be discussing the use of natural baits here ... many artificial baits and lures and their techniques involve a little more than basic knowledge... However, we do suggest you become familiar with simple jigs (i.e. rubber tailed etc.) and their uses and applications.
~~~
We will assume you have line weight rods and reels that are applicable to the intended type of fishing. We will also assume you have developed the capabilities to tie sound knots in all required lines.
First and foremost the number one thing to apply to all aspects of fishing is to keep it simple .
Catching fish is a simple exercise... just fish with what the fish are eating...when and where they are eating them... simple enough.
Landlubber fishing makes the above mentioned exercise difficult in many instances but not impossible to execute. There are plenty of "20%'ERs" that never fish from boats (and catfish don't count)!
Wading and the use of very light weight paddle (only) craft like kayaks and canoes widely expand the the accessible water and fishing areas without the trouble and expense of power boats. Ever notice how inshore-fishermen in boats are always trying to get close to the mangroves, pilings, shore, seawall, etc...?
Fixed locations like beaches(accessible), bridges, jetties, piers, seawalls, etc. can offer great fishing opportunities. During seasonal changes (water temp.)migrating (pelagic and others) species can be predicted to be at certain spots on certain tides. Current flow is the single most important element for coastal angling. Presenting a bait naturally in the current is the key to getting strikes. Using the LEAST amount of terminal tackle required for the conditions and tackle weight is paramount for regular success.
 ***BEWARE***     Do not buy what you don't need        Do not buy what is know as "tourist rigs" to seasoned anglers... they consist of a piece of plastic covered steel leader with a swivel then a flashy sleeve followed with an orange plastic day-glow bead... then a slip- type lead sinker (varied sizes) followed by another day-glow bead, another sleeve forming a loop with another swivel often of the snap variety...  You don't need these !  ***BEWARE***
