How to Catch Fish ><(((*>
It has been said that a fisherman is not much
more than a jerk on one end of a line waiting for a jerk on
the other end…
…In one word, the best way to catch fish (as
apposed to losing them) is to be "smooth".
~~~
If you caught what you expected... every time
you went... it would not be 'fishing' it would be 'catching'.
~~~
In order to catch fish it is imperative
to know when and where the fish will be and time your ventures
accordingly. The first step is to learn about the semi-invariable
factors such as habitat, structure and sub-marine configurations.
Then learn to apply the variable factors such as tides and
current flow, weather, and water temperature.
It is said that 20% of the fishermen catch 80% of the fish…Learning
when, where and why fish will be at a certain time is a big
step toward getting into that 20%!
Next comes learning what type of baits and how to present
them. Proper tackle, knots and application techniques must
be learned. Experience is the key to becoming moderately successful
or completely mastering the art. It will take time, learn
what does and doesn't work, don't develop habits of "soaking
baits" in non-productive spots and regard it as fishing. (That's
what the 80% do).
Fishing can be as enjoyable or as frustrating
as any other sport or recreation. Preparedness is paramount
to limiting sources of disappointments.
Fishing from a boat unleashes the limits of landlubbers but
also compounds the required efforts for successful and rewarding
experiences.
Far and away the fastest way for someone to
learn something they know nothing about is to watch someone
who does. (Don't pick up bad habits from an 80%'er) For a
jump-start, consider hiring a professional fishing guide a
time or two to get the feel for required tackle, baits and
techniques for specific applications. Professionally guided
trips, whether inshore or offshore can be invaluable in getting
started off on the right path successful fishing. A guided
trip can instantly turn a complete beginner into a moderately
successful angler by eliminating common beginner and novice
errors and mistakes.
This does not mean you can't become an expert
on your own; it all depends on the time and effort you are
willing to devote. Every successful angler has heroes, mentors,
and respected companions they have learned from and gain experience
from on an ongoing basis, it is part of the process and the
source of much of the reward of the sport.
Our mission for these pages is to assist you
in finding information, and or links to sources of information
useful to fishermen that can't be found by hands on experience
on the water, and helping you become a 20%'er… Good Luck
